Our October main film will be Green Book...
A film inspired by true events about a tour of the Deep South by African American piano virtuoso Don Shirley and Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga who served as Shirley's driver and bodyguard.
When Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), a bouncer from the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a world-class black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger-as well as unexpected humanity and humour, they are forced to set aside their differences to complete the tour safely.
“Green Book may well move you, possibly to tears, at the thought of real social change and kindness (at a time when we need it badly).” Time Out
“A touching and emotional movie, with acid comedy touches created by the discrepancy of this uneven partnership. Mortensen and Ali performances are delightful.” Proceso
Tickets cost £4 for adults and £2 for under 18s, and are available online now or in advance from Watts Trading or on the door if not already sold out.
